*Don't give them details of referees until they have got you a written offer of employment. *Bear in mind that they will embellish the details about the role you are going for. *Be very assertive with them. If you don't want to accept or be put forward for a particular role then don't let them pursuade you otherwise. *If they don't mention a salary, then the role is probably very badly paid.
I wouldn't even bother using an agency. If you must use one, try a site like this: http://www.rateatemp.com/ and see what others have said. This post makes me think of this call I received last night around 7 p.m. (which i didn't answer... I screen my calls). This guy was like "This is Joe, you called me yesterday to set up an appointment. Call me back at 555-555-5555." I just wanted to laugh! First of all, I NEVER called this person. Did he think i was an idiot and wouldn't know if I called to make an appointment with someone? Chances are, he was from some temp agency, most likely saw my resume on careerbuilder. That site seems to be the worst for those people.
