I would stay clear of any place that asks you to pay money. You shouldn't have to pay to work, it's the other way around. There is a website where you can look up internet scams as well. Do a google search and I'm sure you'll find one.
If its too good to be true then it is. If you have to pay money or do a bunch of backflips other then handing in your resume thens its bull. Workopolis and Monster.com are job places but even those are filled with scams. remember a good job is not easy to get. people don't go to school for 25 years because its easy to be a doctor.
Try finding out more abt a site u like. As long they have been around for long, & have a good reputation, it's safe to go with them. Try visiting forums, & find out what ppl think of those sites. Try: www.elance.com. They r a genuine site, but mind u, the competition is fierce! Hope this helps.
If your an established writer, you might want to consider getting an agent. If you got one you might want to fire him (LOL). If your not established, you might want to check out some government grants that are available to help you out while your writing a book, novel, poem, or whatever you write. Working online as a writer takes a little work. Unless your established, you can't really work online without a butt-load of experience. Most employers check to see your previous work ethic as an in-house writer. This will help them determine whether or not to let you write off-site. They may also tell you to write for about 2-3 weeks from home and then come back. This will allow them to test whether or not they can trust you working alone. I know I didn't answer your question directly but I hope this helps!
I suppose the real question is whether you want a job or a career... ANYONE can get a job, especially when it comes to stuff like flipping burgers. A career is a different kind of work: it is your committment to a body of work that will enable you to use your skills and talents and be happy (most all of the time). A career can allow for advancement (unless you go into business for yourself and be your own boss). A job will always find you cornered, unable to move upward, and begging for a raise. You will be nothing more than frustrated with "just a job". The first bit of advice I have for you (and probably the most important) is to look into the companies themselves. Do not respond to emails soliciting you. This is called "fishing". Go find the people you want to work for! Make contacts. Listen or ask friends and family to keep their ears open for things you are interested in. Follow-up on every opportunity. You never know if it will turn out to be what you're looking for. Find jobs and careers you have a genuine interest in (i.e., publishing). [Sorry, just pulled that one out of a hat]. Then find [in this example] publishing companies who have consistently produced good work. Do your research. Contact them. Take the initiative. Don't wait for them to contact you. The genuine job openings ones won't ask for your money, or ask you to work at home calling other people for free. Scammers will find a way to get their hands on your money. It's best, if you have the resources, to do research on the company, even if it means contacting the Better Business Bureau. Remember, you don't pay to get a job, you get paid to do a job. Best of luck and happy hunting!
