A close freind of mine is being prosecuted for Credit Card Fraud/Identity theft and has a court hearing next week. She also is bipolar. Her lawyer wants a certificate of diagnosis from her mental health provider....do you think her mental circumstances will help her case? I guess she was off her meds at the time cause she couldnt work due to the bipolar and side effects of her medication.
No she acted alone...the arguement is that she wasnt in her right mind when the act was committed.
So, im 16 years old.
I just recently assisted a friend in some credit card fraud (we bought a 700 dollar phone and resold it for 500 dollars).
Now, lets say the police find out. And they get me.
Whats the worst they can do to me?
And..
Whats the normal penalty they would give to someone like me?
And..
What would most likely happen to me?
Notes: I'm a good person, i don't really know what happened to me on this... I'm involved in sports, a catholic and have great friends. No drugs and i do not party!

My friend's grandmother's credit card was stolen, and they have apprehended the culprit (after she went on her own personal shopping spree). We both want to know whether or not credit card fraud is a federal offense or not. Thanks!
I am pretty sure, if not absolutely sure, that I know credit card fraud is going on. There is much more to the story,....but I need to know, who do I go to first?
Guess I should have added more detail. My mother who died 09-10-05 had had credit cards; my half sister withdrew money via debit card, to pay her personal bills; it's come to my attention that there have been charges and debit withdrawls on my mother's credit cards after her death. Something very sickening about this. If I knew the exact names of her cards, I certainly would report her.To this day, I still cannot wrap my mind around the fact she stole from a dead woman,...let alone the fact, her own mother.

Ok, so we are a very small company, and a month ago, someone ordered services from us, which we kind of assumed it was fraud, because of the two things, it was from Vietnam and the credit card was from UK, and second, it was quite a large charge, totaling $1400.00. We did not charge the card at the time yet, because we suspected it was fraud, but weren’t sure yet.
So we call the bank, and they said they couldn’t give us any information on the card and that we can go ahead and charge it. We did, and yesterday we get a chargeback!?
Now all of this could be avoided if the bank actually picked up the phone and called the customer...I mean, the credit card was probably not used illegally just on our website…
Is there a way to get the chargeback back and even sue the bank for being so irresponsible with OUR money?
In a nut shell, I was the subject of card fraud around March and an item I did not order from the internet arrived at my house the day after my bank phoned me, all was sorted by the bank but I have been left with the item, I don't want to go into much detail but its got 1 Gig of ram 9-)
Its still boxed here and no one has ever come for it 9 months later, what's the legal situation, "cough" when is it mine???

does anybody know of a company which you pay on a montly basis and they monitor your credit cards? so if somebody tries to use my credit card, i will get notified BEFORE the fraud.. also for identity theft. in case someone tries to open an account with all my info etc.. my husband and I just paid 6500 in court today for a fraud case that we didn't know existed.. don't want this to happen again.. please help with any suggestions. thank you. :(
ok i forgot to add some stuff to my last question so maybe the answers will be different now. I was charged with credit card fraud at age 15. The judge said since it was my first offense he was giving me probation and if i complete the community service the charges would be dissmissed. I completed the community service and the charges were dissmissed. This is on my juvinile record now. Credit card fraud: Charges dissmissed. Can this be held against me?
I should also mention I was not arrested for this.
I have a credit card debt due to fraud that dates back 12 years. Is it easier at this point to just tell the company I'm not paying due to statute of limitations? Proving that it wasn't me due to the length of time would be very difficult if not impossible. I already told them about the fraud and they have'nt gotten back to me.
If I do handle it this way, do I have to worry about it staying on my report? Is there any way to deal with that? Should I negotiate with them? (they already offered to cut the debt in half if I paid it by form letter). But the idea of eating someone else's debt from a crime against me is infuriating!

my mother has just been a victem of credit card fraud.... she went to the bank and she OWED the bank over $1,000
so we filed a fraud report so we are curious what would happen to the person who took the card if that person got caught??

When I was 15 I stole someone's credit card number and tried to buy a dvd online. Needless to say i was caught and now it's on my juvinile record. Credit card fraud! It sounds so bad I can barely say it out loud. It's my only flaw on my recocrd. Nothing else but this. No criminal record. My record is not sealed. I'm 20 and in college for criminal justice. Is all hope lost for getting a job in this field? Will government agencies look at this and not accept me? Should i just quit now? This has been bothering me for so long and I feel so hopeless. Can someone shed light on this? Can someone with the knoledge tell me if this will disqualify me from getting a job as a police officer (for example)?
Working in the criminal justice field is my dream and i want to follow my dream. I know it's credit card fraud but doesn't the fact that it's juvinile make any difference? I was 15 years old! Do I have a chance? With a BS from Northeastern??

I am holding this credit card from 2005 & it also has an add on credit card for my wife. I have not used my card for 1 year & my wife has not used it for at least 2 years. On 28th November 2007 my wife was contacted by a person claiming to be from the credit card company to check if she had carried out large value shopping on 26th/27th November. She informed the official that she did not have any card from their company & she had not used any credit card for any shopping since she was unsure about the bonafides of the company. I then called up the Customer Care Centre number & informed them that we had not carried out any shopping on any of our credit cards & that the cards were in our possession. The card company official informed us that a lot of transactions had taken place by swiping at merchant establishments & not through internet usage.
Does any one know of credit card fraud by swiping at merchant establishment even though card is with self & not used for last 2 years ?
Ok, so back in november I applied for a couple of credit cards to get me through a financial emergency. One of them was a discover card. I latter got a letter in the mail saying I was denied. Welll today I opened up a bill and saw that it was for a discover card that had a 99$ balance and was 30 days past due. I was all "Huh?" and gave them a call, they said I had applied for and been accepted for a card with a 59$ anual fee, and even though the card was never activated they went ahead and charged me this fee and now my credit score is being penalized for a card I never recived, never activated and can't remember if I applied for it or not. So I got angry, was transfered to fraud, told them that I never got the card, never activated the card and can't remember if I applied for it or not, and they said they'd open a fraud ticket. My question is, if I did apply for the card and can't remember will I go to Jail or be in trouble with the government for opening a fraud investigation?
Firstly, I'm innocent.
I'm 18 as is this girl I know. Her debit card is on a joint account with her mother because she was 17 when she got the debit card, it was in her moms name. All the money in the account was this girl's. She wanted me to book a hotel and she read me the numbers over the phone and I submitted it to best western. The next day SHE and only SHE went into best western and signed the papers.
Did I commit debit card fraud?
Is this a felony (virginia) or a misdemeanor since the charges are less than $100 dollars?

I recently found out my 35y.o. cousin activated a credit card that was sent to me a few months ago. I stay with her my last year of high school so i still have mail coming to the address. I found out about it when i recieve a bill from the company. She activated the card on her cell number. She made 2 paymenys then stopped and I owe them close to $500 and it still adding intrest weekly. I cancel the card and let the company no what was going out and they told what actions i can take. One of the option is file a police report take her to court. My mother also agrees with me filing a police report. I made sure there wasnt any more accounts open in my name and change all the numbers and address to make sure anything with the account comes directly to me. I do want to legal actions against her, but i dont want her to go to jail for it. They told me she will be charge for 3 federal crimes (opening my mail, unauthorized use of my social, and credit fraud).

back in august I used my debit card to dial a phone sex number(stupid on my part and i'm not proud of it) and a day or 2 later I couldn't find my card so i reported it lost/stolen like anyone with half a brain.in the middle of october the company that ran the hot line called me and said that someone had used my phone with a stolen card.anyway,when i called them back they seemed to know it was me and that it was my card.basically they said if i didn't pay them the left over amount that i didn't have in my debit card,they'd charge me with credit card fraud and identity theft,which doesn't make any sense to me since it was ME using MY card.oh,and the person i talked to wanted me to send the money via western union,which seemed odd to me.they never sent me a bill or anything so i don't even know if the amount they're asking for is legit.i've never been in trouble with the law at all so hopefully they go easy on me
Recently. BOA called me and said I got a credit card and I havn't paid the money. However, I didn't receive any credit card. In fact, I didn't know I will have one because when I applied credit card I was a student. They said due to I don't have any income, so they can't give me credit card. And I moved to LA(I lived in KS before). Therefore, I try to explain my situation to them and told them I never received it and used it . They said they will investigate and they already closed the account. However, last Friday they said My accound fraud has been denied. And they want me pay the money. What should I do??

I just went to BOA to ask for the proof like singanature etc. But they told me all I can do is to pay the money. How can I do. I feel so desparated.
A relative had over $3600 fraudulently charged to a Capitol One credit card she had never used (she had *never* given out this number for anything, so we're still trying to figure out how this fraud happened).

A few weeks later, the matter has been resolved with the credit card company, but her APR on this card showed an increase of several percentage points (even thought she still hasn't used the card).

Can fraud (even resolved fraud) hurt a person's credit and/or cause rate increases like this? And if so, what can be done about it?

Hello, I have been using godaddy.com for stuff a couple days. I have only purchased 2 items on godaddy.com, which was Hosting plan-1 year for $38(with 10% off) and $8 domain. I even have the receipt for them. Then one day all my family was at work and at school. I didnt and my parents didnt even use the credit card that day!! Then that day(when I was at school and parents at work), one employee got my credit card(it was employee they found)(even found him). He made 20 purchases on godaddy.com and he charged my credit card for $10,000!!! I didnt even purchase it and the cc company said that it was a fraud and all purchases on cc was from godaddy.com!!! Then my daddy, called godaddy and FINALLY they gave me a refund for that $10,000. So im safe. My dad canceled godaddy account and all credit cards. Im safe but is there a way I can get revenge for this and what do you think about this?

if you've been a victim of debit card fraud, how successful have you been in recovering your money? someone did this using my debit card number (about $150) and i'm not sure how long it will take to get my money back or if i will get it back at all. i cancelled the card and contacted my bank and everything but i'm just wondering how likely it is to get everything back.
agh, how do people even get this information? i rarely used this card number online...

i have a online boyfriend we been together 21/2 years online only veiwing one another over webcam anyway we decided to get serious and he said he loved me he even proposed to me but now that we are having problems he is now wanting to accuse me of credit card fraud bc he actually gave me his credit card number to use whenever i wanted or needed somthing he would even send gifts to me without me asking for them now that he is angry he says he will get me and that his plan is to charge me with credit card fraud i have a kid and i dont know what to do ? can he chagre me with credit card fraud i have proof he gave me the credits card numbers he himself even added my adress to his crdeit card so that i would not have any trouble please anyone with any info for me tell me what should i do thank you
I have suffered really bad debit card fraud and it doesn't matter if the bank have issued a new card, it has happened on all 23 issues, the bank ignored my compalint in feb 2006. and again in feb 2007 it is still not being dealt with 7 weeks later, they offered me a 10k overdraft which is not even close to the fraud amount and won't offer any more, i ring 3 times a day their fraud department but honestly i am getting peeved off now the amount of fraud is £44000,00 over a year and a half little bits at a time and it looks like internet, the bank says its very complex and can not even give me a time limit as to when this will be cleared up? Please can anybody give ideas. Please don't say change banks one can't when theey owe you this amount.
It seems to be all internet fraud for gambling sites.

I have 2 credit cards I use regularily. I pay them off monthly and I really have no need for credit. However I enjoy the convienance of a card to use at gas pumps and for shopping online.
But in the past 3 months BOTH of my cards have been victims of fraud online. Basically someone has gotten my card number and bought stuff online with it. I am not out any money , but it is very frustrating. I'm concerned that the more this happens the more my money is at risk.
I've told my husband we have no reason to use credit cards so we are going to pay cash for everything we buy in person. But what about online purchases? Shopping online is a big part of my life - I live in the city and don't like driving to the burbs to shop. I also have a few hobbies that basically require you to purchase things online because I can't get them locally.
Are there decent alternatives to not using a credit card online? Please don't mention debit card - no way I'm entering that number online.
Why is a paypal credit card more safe than any other VISA or Mastercard from a major bank?
I know for a fact that one of the recent frauds was not from my error, but because a small business that I deal with had their system hacked. The guy that owns the business is a friend of mine and I've talked to him. Not sure about the second fraud cause Mastercard wouldn't tell me what happened, but I suspect it was something similar (but not my friend's company).
The credit card companies actually appraoched me with the problem and automatically shut down my cards and sent out replacements.
Today I found out that I have been a victim of debit card fraud, £131 was spent at UK-Carpets-Direct (online)and £8.00 to CC London - where ever that is, I live in Cumbria.
Barclays my bank have blocked that card - etc.. But they didn't seem that interested, I hardly use card machines, I only purchase from big online retailers like Amazon, so I don't how I've been done...Does anyone know how they could have got my card information? Anyone else been a victim of card fraud?

I believe that someone has used those checks that come with my credit cards without my permission. There was a $1000 charge to my credit card. I've called my credit card company, and they've put it on hold, but since they haven't received the actual copy of the check yet, I can't do anything for a few days, nor can they see who/what it's payable to. This is the first time I've been the victim of credit card fraud and disputed charges. In general, how likely are the credit cards company to help you out and believe you? I don't want to be charged for $1000 I didn't do!
It happened to me , the macys credit card fraud.
I am writing this to alert anyone reading of this Macys fraud
It works like this, when you buy any products from macys they ask you if you want to signup for their card service, if you say yes, they try to put your new purchase on the new card so that it gets activated immediately and you become liable to use it. I had given them my existing credit card, I dont know why they put the charges on the new card.
I called their customer service to remove the charge from their card and put it on my card.
They went ahead and closed it and put a balance on my credit report. All without informing me or contacting me.
I paid their card balance in full this is after they charged me a hefty penalty fees
they wont send me a itemized bill. The penalty amounted to 271$, for a charge of 46$.
The macys customer rep said that I should not have paid without getting a itemized bill, I think I am legally entitled to an itemized bill
I just had a guy stop by my house saying he was a victim of credit card fraud, and they traced the address to my house? How is this? I don't own a credit card, so I don't understand how even a credit card works, yet alone fraud. How can someone steal money from him if they say their buisness is my address? Shouldn't I of gotten some strange mail come in or something? Am I going to be in trouble because they think it was me because I live there? The only people who live in the house are me, my husband and two kids (4 and 5)... I don't have teenagers or other adults to wonder if they have done something. Please help... When the guy came I was across the street. He pulled in front of my house, walked half way up my yard and turned around... then I walked over to see if I could help him. He and his wife seemed like they really were the victims, and not trying to scam me. I have lived here for 4 years... this house has only had one other owner and they lived here for 60 something years before they passed away.

Hi could you tell me the jail term if someone has stolen money from someones else card. the reason why i am asking is because i have found out that my sons money has been missing from his cashcard and his cousin has admiited doing it. he is 16 and will be 17 in a week and i think the nationwide bank have contacted the police and would like to know if the police will drop charges if i ask them to.
