card fraud Question And Answer
Debit Card Fraud bank taking 7 weeks and haven't started investigating?
I have suffered really bad debit card fraud and it doesn't matter if the bank have issued a new card, it has happened on all 23 issues, the bank ignored my compalint in feb 2006. and again in feb 2007 it is still not being dealt with 7 weeks later, they offered me a 10k overdraft which is not even close to the fraud amount and won't offer any more, i ring 3 times a day their fraud department but honestly i am getting peeved off now the amount of fraud is £44000,00 over a year and a half little bits at a time and it looks like internet, the bank says its very complex and can not even give me a time limit as to when this will be cleared up? Please can anybody give ideas. Please don't say change banks one can't when theey owe you this amount.
It seems to be all internet fraud for gambling sites.
It is extremely worrying and i am on sedatives from the GP to help deal with the stress and anxiety of it all.

As you appear to be a citizen of the UK, the laws I'm familiar with don't apply. However, there must be laws in the UK addressing the issue of who is responsible for debit card fraud. Debit card fraud is more difficult to perpetrate as the perpetrator must have information that only you or an insider at the bank can possibly have--assuming you've not written your pin down and have shredded any paperwork which comes with the debit card which identifies the pin. Are you certain that there isn't somebody close to you who is involved?
Report them the FDIC and any other government agency who has any control. I'm not sure what agencies are but you can probably find out for FDIC. And for goodness sakes, change your account to another bank or, better yet, a credit union before the one gets you any further in debt.
Oh my God !! You poor thing ! I think you have to go the Banking Ombudsman.
I bought something online once and never received it. When I told my Bank, they refunded the amount to my account immediately and then investigated it (after sending me a form to sign giving them authority to do this). They have a duty to safeguard your money so if money has been taken from your account without your authority, I'm sure that they must refund you first and then investigate and, as long as you haven't been in any way responsible for the loss, they must suffer the loss.
I hope you get this sorted out soon - it must be so worrying !
In the U.K. is there a Ministry like the Federal Trade Commission In the U.S. I have had some problems like yours but not to the extent you have them and I went to the FTC and they helped me with this problem. Good Luck!
I would write a letter to the bank and dispute the charge. Also, you can switch banks because they are not allowed to report this until the have investigated it. If you tell the other bank when you open up your new account tell them that it is under dispute. If it is a Visa Debit card the zero liability policy may apply here. If it is a Maestro I think it also has a zero liability policy if used online. (Not in person).
This would require you to go to your bank and request to fill out the maestro or Visa debit card zero liability form.
In the US when banks fill out the zero liability form. Mastercard and or VIsa pays this not the banks.
However, a debit card should never get that high. I think you need to get an attorney or I think you call it a solicitor. The fraud department should of spotted those unusual transactions and stopped them, if the bank decides to settle make sure they agree to remove any negative info from whomever they reported you too.
