credit card fraud Question And Answer
my husband found out that someone got a credit card in his name this happend back in 2002 but he did not find out about it until we bought our house last year. now the credit card company is coming after him for non payment he told them that it was fraud and that he wanted proof from them that he opened the account and he wants verification of signature but the company is not corroporating and now they are threatingin to take him to court for garnishment. My husband thinks he knows who may have done it what else can we do.. the credit card company keeps stating they have sent us the info and we have not received anything, now there lawyers are coming after us they just want it paid off and with interest the amount is over $3000.00 we keep telling them that it is fraud and they just keep calling what can we do from here??????
My wife's parents stole her credit card 5 years ago, ran up the bill, and refused to pay. My wife refused to pay it also, nor would she press charges against her parents, so the card card went to collections. The statute of limitations had already expirered for credit card bills (in Texas it's only 4 years). However, the collections agency is now saying that since it's a case of credit card fraud, the statute of limitations is "mute".
Can the collections agency now sue us, can they sue my in-laws, or can they not sue anyone? My wife will not press charges against her parents, does this matter?
A few days ago I got a call from a bank asking me if I wanted a new credit card. I told them very clearly that I didn't want to do anything that day, but if they wanted to send me some information I'd happily look over it.
They went ahead and opened an account in my name and sent me the card. I can, of course, cancel the card but the opening/closing will still have a negative effect on my credit report.
They haven't stolen from me, no one is using my card, but they still did something without my authorization that will have a negative effect on my credit. I figure if they've committed a crime that I can name I can make a lot more progress with customer service. Is this credit card fraud? Is this illegal? If so, what exactly is the crime? What can I do with the company, and what can I do if they're not helpful?
Thanks.
I work for a sales company and I was wondering if there is any software that could help prevent credit card fraud. I want to check all credit card numbers for duplicates to ensure that numbers aren't copied from previous sales. Please help...I want to go home and have a good weekend and I am tired of searching the web!!!
