fraud prevention Question And Answer
contols for their detection and prevention?
It's pathetic, and it's only gotten worse in the past few years.
Families have lost loved ones, unfortunately most of the time, they aren't found alive. These families become desperate and become gullible, which is understandable. Unfortunately money-mongering frauds who call themselves psychics take advantage of them, it is serious emotional abuse.
My question is, is there anything that someone like myself could do to put these people out of business, for the sake of these families, and the prevention of some police departments contacting them?
Thankfully, more recently news programs like Anderson Cooper and 20/20 have aired specials questioning the authentication of psychics.
Please take a look at this video, you'll see the negative impact they leave on these poor, devastated people when they realize they've been deceived. It's sickening, it really is.

The American Dream turns into a debtor's nightmare
A sad, but common, tale starts with alleged predatory lending, intensifies with impossibly high payments and usually ends in foreclosure.
By Jennifer Delson and and Christopher Goffard, Los Angeles Times Staff Writers
October 8, 2007
Soledad Aviles dreamed for years of owning a home, with a plot of land where he could grow corn and chiles as he did in his native Mexico. So he felt blessed last year when he learned he could buy a three-bedroom, single-story stucco house on West La Verne Avenue in Santa Ana.
Referred to a local loan broker by a trusted friend, he borrowed the entire purchase price of $615,000 from Washington Mutual at a high interest rate typical of sub-prime loans. The monthly payment, as he says he understood it, would be $3,600 -- steep for a glass cutter who made $9 an hour -- but Aviles counted on his wife and three of his six daughters, who also worked low-paying jobs, to contribute.
"We took out our pencils, figured out our take-home pay and figured out that if we all pitched in, it would work," said Aviles, 54, a stoop-shouldered, soft-spoken man with a sixth-grade education from Mexico.
Relying on the broker's word, he signed loan documents written in English, a language he neither speaks nor reads, Aviles said. He was shocked to learn afterward that the monthly payment would not be $3,600, but $4,800 -- a price that forced him to rent out bedrooms, the garage and an enclosed porch while he and his wife slept on the couch. He fed his family with food from friends and corn he grew.
Aviles says he was not aware that the February 2006 loan application he signed dramatically exaggerated his family's income. The application lists him as the owner of a landscaping business with a $7,400 monthly income. His 27-year-old daughter Marlene, who earns $9 an hour in a noodle factory, appears as the owner of a housecleaning company who makes $5,700 a month. The application lists their yearly income as $157,000, when, according to Aviles, it was really closer to $60,000.
Now, five months behind on his payments, Aviles is scrambling to sell the house before the bank forecloses. Desperately ill from kidney disease and unable to work for the last year, he sits dejectedly at the dining room table, wondering when the bank will kick him out.
Aviles' situation is hardly unique. Add his name to the ever-expanding list of casualties in the nationwide sub-prime mortgage debacle, his experience echoing that of thousands who bought homes in recent years only to find themselves in a sagging market saddled with payments they cannot make.
But amid the storm of foreclosures, his story illustrates the special vulnerabilities of first-generation immigrants in places like predominantly Latino Santa Ana, where city leaders have identified about 800 sub-prime borrowers facing the potential loss of their homes.
"We think this is just the tip of the iceberg, in terms of the breadth and depth," said Steve Harding, Santa Ana's deputy city manager. Apart from the language barrier, he said, many first-generation immigrants might have been especially vulnerable to sub-prime lending because they avoided checking accounts and credit cards, which prevented them from qualifying for regular loans.
The city has teamed with the Fair Housing Council of Orange County to offer free foreclosure prevention workshops, hoping to teach people to avoid predatory lenders and find help as they face the loss of their homes.
The Fair Housing Council said the number of people seeking help over mortgage woes, many of them Latinos living in Anaheim and Santa Ana, has soared. The group typically receives 15 to 20 complaints annually, but in September of this year the group received more than 20. The state Department of Real Estate, nonprofits and the Mexican consulate also have reported a rise in mortgage complaints, many of them from homeowners saying they signed documents they didn't understand.
Across the state, many cases are landing in court. Kerstin Arusha, a directing attorney at the nonprofit Law Foundation of Silicon Valley, said that Spanish speakers, along with the elderly, "seem to be hardest hit by both sub-prime lending and predatory lending. There are many borrowers out there that were misled about the terms of the loan."
The Law Foundation is suing a broker, real estate agent and lender in federal court on behalf of nine Santa Clara County families, many of whom speak only Spanish, contending they were lured into mortgages they didn't understand. The lawsuit alleges that the broker inflated incomes on loan applications, misrepresented the terms of the loans and stuck clients with higher payments than they had been promised.
The victims "thought they saw the promise of the American Dream, and instead they ended up with a nightmare," Arusha said. "I think they were seen as easy targets for predatory lenders who could sell them a bill of goods without giving them disclosures in a language they understand."
The Law Foundation is handling 10 other cases involving predatory lending, half of them for Latino clients, Arusha said.
But in Orange County, the district attorney's office has not reported an increase in prosecutions for fraudulent lending. Elizabeth Henderson, a prosecutor in the county's fraud unit, said many such crimes go unreported in immigrant communities because of a distrust of law enforcement and confusion over what had occurred.
"They're not really sure what they were promised, so they don't know if they were cheated," she said.
Sitting in his Santa Ana home, waiting for the bank to kick him out or for his kidney to kill him, Aviles did not hesitate to characterize what had happened to him: "They used me, nothing more."
He was led astray, he said, by a man he had considered a dear friend, Carlos Lares. They used to work in a factory together. He said Lares showed him about a dozen homes, including the one he bought, and offered to arrange a mortgage.
State records show Lares lacks the real estate license required to show homes. In an interview with The Times, Lares denied showing homes and said he merely took Aviles to the office where he works, Century 21 South Coast. He declined to comment further. His business card lists him as a "team service associate."
Part of me does feel bad for him, but he was stupid to think he could even make payments o $3600 a month, when he and his wife only make $9.00 an hour.
WE should not have to bail him out or bail out others like them. This article is the start of letting the taxpayer bail these people out of their situations. Screw the people who made educated choices.
"""Jesus, Mary and Joseph.....a $600K house? $9/hr income. You must be kidding me. What was this man thinking in ANY language??? """"
LOL that is the going rate in this part of the country. What is sad....... the majority of Santa Ana is a dump...... it is an illegals haven...... It is little TJ

Wrongful Termination at Sam's Club 6625 at San Fernando California 91340
Gabriel H Peregrino is the Tire and Battery Associate that lied on Saturday, 21 April 2007. He wrote a lie stating that I was aggressive, but he only exaggerates and is vindictive. He is a slacker and Ambrosio Galvan and Bill Lang know this but will not admit since they can be fired for any reason since people in California can be terminated At Will.
The following implicates Club Manager Fidel Jacobo
Saturday, 21 April 2007
16:27 PDST
To Sam's Club Asset Protection and management
From Waller, Max Rafael
Incidence
TBC Assoc Gabriel (Assoc ID 2216) did not want to raise the vehicle for mounting and the easier task, the tire of the vehicle. About two week ago he and I had a great half hour talk about animation or know as cartoons. I thought we were having some kind of association but I am wrong. This took place around 13:07 PDST so please review the surveillance tape. You will also see the pranks others have played on me. Review all from two weeks back. Gabriel and I pushed each other. Ambrosio Galvan and Bill Lang know his work habits. Thank you for opening this investigation. I am aware of what constitutes a Hostile Work Place Environment. You, Fidel Jacobo, have been told of TBC Associates works habits. You have not addressed this in any document meeting.
Show the surveillance video as proof. The video would exonerate me of their false charges.
I believe that I was terminated since California is a At-Will Employment state
William Gregory Lang or Bill Lang transferred to a Sam's Club near Palmer Lake in Colorado in early June 2007.
Mr. Lang used to be trusted by me who made the mistake of telling him everything before the Termination on Monday, 23 April 2007.
Bill Lang knows the dirt of Sam's Club 6625 and had told some people in the Club that almost everyone hates Fidel Jacobo and that is why a lot of people quit Sam's Club 6625.
Team Lead Ambrosio Galvan also knows a lot of dirty secrets at Sam's Club 6625, but is nervous about losing his job if he sides with me
Sam's Club PD-57 Investigation/Suspension was NOT adhering to by Club Manager Fidel Jacobo and Membership Manager Esperanza Lopez.
Read the complete policy, PD-57, at the end.
No documentation of any complaints and the San Fernando Police Department or the Los Angeles Police Department ever showed for a "Work Place Violence."
Please show proof since one complaint and one video tape does NOT establish Workplace Violence.
SHOW THE SURVEILLANCE VIDEO!!!
Neither Mr. Jacobo nor Ms Lopez wanted to sign the papers of any meeting between two managers and me for Legal Documentation.
No meetings to address any potential problems at the Tire and Battery Center were brought up by the Team Lead or Management.
As of Monday, 9 April 2007, the people of the Tire Shop are playing pranks and making it appear as if I was becoming forgetful such as the misplacement of tools and personal safety gear.
The suspects are Erick Miron and Mark Castro.
Esperanza Lopez was told and never had a meeting to discuss the topics brought to her attention by me.
Esperanza Lopez was asked to verify this by reviewing the Surveillance video tapes and my request was not honored.
Esperanza Lopez was told about the pranks about two weeks ago but no meeting to diffuse or address serious matters was conducted.
Wal-Mart Stores, Inc does not always follow their guidelines and fire anyone that does not allow their selves to be intimidated!!!
In the early 1990s Esperanza Lopez used to be a cashier at Tres Sierras Store #1 in Pacoima CA 91331 but when she became a manager she was as a friendly to old friends of the Delgado Family. Esperanza's nickname was "Pera."
Esperanza Lopez is a decent manager BUT only honors the request (s) of those that will help her career or that she likes.
If I can get a good attorney I might be able to file the following complaints.
Discriminations types; Disparate Treatment and Disparate Impact
The Waller Family will pray for everyone that is against me
Erick Miron always complained about classical music and started a rumor and told Marco Arins that he and I had a physical fight.
I, Max Rafael Waller, formerly Assoc ID 0035 and Operator 007 proudly served from Tuesday, 13 November 1990 - Monday, 23 April 2007 and only needed about nine years to do a minimal of twenty-five years to retire from Wal Mart Stores, Inc. I was one hundred percent vested in Profit Sharing and had a one month vacation allocated per year.
I am a share holder Wal Mart Stores, Inc stock and I have about 11 shares so he has vested interest at the time of termination.

December 2006 Mehmet Ekinci {A Hatchet Man and sent to "clean House" is no longer there but in Fresno California according to Mr. Jason Fastner} said that he was replacing everyone in the tire shop or its proper title: Tire and Battery Center according to Jeff Lopez {no longer work there} and Mark Castro {has recanted} and Bill Lang heard indirectly but will deny it. Max Rafael Waller studied all of Wal-Mart policies and found that if that his remark {INTIMIDATION} could be verified then he would get a coaching for making such a remark. The others are scared to tell the truth.
According to Art who works for the California EDD at http://www.edd.ca.gov/ my ex boss told him that I was fired for
1) Work Place Violence
and
2) Verbal Altercation.
Fidel Jacobo was doing his best so that I would not receive unemployment.
I am receiving unemployment since there was no meeting to talk about Work Place Violence.
People that are fired/terminated due to violence will NOT receive Unemployment Compensation which is commonly known as Unemployment Pay.
On Saturday, 12 May 2007 a relative of mine two Sam's Club 6625 associates possibly a Check Out Supervisor Jay and a female spreading misinformation at Wireless Communication #1, 11916 Foothill Blvd, Lake View Terrace CA 91342; Telephone:1-818-897-1477 and Fax:1-818-897-1467
If Wal-Mart / Sam's Club 6625 could negate what I have written, then I would be in legal trouble.
A lot of information came from Bill Lang who is an insider.

Hourly Associates will not be eligible to use benefit hours (illness protection, or personal time) to compensate for lost wages. Salaried will be paid only through the end of the week in which they will be suspended.
If an Associate is suspended due to an arrest, refer to Arrested Associate's Policy, PD-01 for additional information.
Appropriate Action
Once the investigation is completed, if there has been no violation of company policy, no disciplinary action will be taken. If there has been a violation of company policy, the Associate under investigation may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination. The investigation materials must still be maintained regardless of the outcome of the investigation.
If the investigation is the result of an Open Door, it is the salaried member of management's responsibility to follow up with the reporting Associate. The salaried member of management should ensure the Associate understands how and why the resolution was determined. I am looking for sincere answers.
I am currently in the 'process' of trying to recover over $3,000 of the 'no risk money back guarantee' they promise. I actually cancelled it all within a week and a half when I discovered I was being hustled. I then did some research, put two and two together, and discovered that the whole thing is a scam. I've read that some people have been waiting months to get refunded and nothing has happened. Well, here I am, a month later, and still no refund myself. Thank God I put it on a credit card because their loss prevention/fraud division is working with me on this. I am hoping you weren't as naive as me and did this supposed business opportunity.....and if you did I hope you at least put it on a credit card. Big learning experience.
Right now we have a few boring keynote speakers and we need to make it "sexy", spice it up a bit and make it fun. What kind of ideas do you have to make this a successful seminar?
It is about retail loss (shoplifting, employee theft, vendor fraud, etc) We are doing a "shoplifting fashion show" and i think that will spice things up, but we need more ideas!
The seminar is all day, 3 keynote speakers with 2 workshop sessions, lunch and two exhibitor breaks. We need something in between the speakers to wake people back up :)
We need something that will drive in the people so they want to come back next year!
I received notification by email that I had won £500,000 on the Microsoft National Lottery. It seemed very authentic and official. It asked for my personal details as well as all my banking details. All THEIR details appear on the Microsoft fraud prevention page. Please be aware. Strange thing is, I have tries twice to post this question and it has been declined!!! The email warned me against sharing information with outside party as I would be disqualified. BEWARE!!!
Had many answers, I wasn't saying I was taken in, all of you, I was warning you that I had reported it and to watch out. I don't give ANY information away,EVER.
I have a MasterCard with HSBC. I know they take fraud prevention seriously, but most of the time they just go too far.
I am usually unable to purchase items online, as my card will decline, and now it has started declining in shops too, simply because the purchase is "unauthorised".
They frequently call me to verify that I have made particular purchases, which even though it only takes a few minutes, is odd because they want to verify that I spent £10 in the supermarket?! I could understand it if it was a couple of hundred pounds.
Every few months they decide to cancel my card and issue me a new one as they say that someone has obtained my card details. I then have the inconvenience of being without a card for two weeks, as well as having to go to the bank in person to collect my new card.
I have excellent credit and pay my card off in full every month. I am wondering if I should switch to another bank, or if other banks put their customers through this trouble as well.
They call you and tell you they are fraud prevention for your credit card company, ask for your pin on the back of your card and say that a company has taken money out of your credit card account and that they are "fixing" it. If you get this call, tell you will call your company right away and see what's going on. Don't give them any info at all.
I really have issues with the McDonalds "Burgercon" ad that blares "burgercon" every time you enter a page its placed on.
I have Asperger's Syndrome and have an extreme sensitivity to sudden loud noises. I work a high-stress job in the fraud prevention department of a bank. When I get home I usually go to my laptop, put Springsteen on the media player, plug in my earphones and surf yahoo while I unwind. As soon as I click on a page with the ad, it blares that stupid burgercon thing before I can hit the mute button. It startles me about as bad as a normal person would feel right after hearing a car backfire right behind them.
Don't tell me to buy an ipod or anything like that. I shouldn't have to spend money because an advertiser can't design an ad thats effective without being disturbing to some people.
I don't mean to be a complainer or a stiff shirt, I just want to have some peace while I try to unwind my way
My husband thinks that you shouldn't complain when you receive bad service at a store or buy a bad food product. He got mad when I called Starkist complaining about some sharp bones I found in my tuna. The company sent me replacements and aplogized. I had a horribly bad experience at a large discount store today and want to call to complain.
He says that this is going to get me in trouble. I told him that my right as a customer is to complain when I get bad service. I used to be a retail manager myself (I now work in fraud prevention for a credit card company) and the conduct of this store's employees was WAY below any reasonable standard.
He is convinced that its not worth it to spend 5 minutes lodging a complaint about a product or service. He also says that people get in trouble for complaining about companies. Does what he's saying sound like a bunch of bull?
My mom got a card with my name on one of her accounts a while back, for me to use for emergencies, and such. I am the only other card holder, and the account was in her name. She just passed away. She is survived by her husband.
I have about $6000 on the card now that I plan to pay in full within the next month. (When I get the life insurance settlement)
However, I just used the card to make a large purchase, (because I figured, I'm paying the whole thing off in <month anyway) and the CC company called and wants to talk to my mom for fraud prevention measures.
I don't know exactly what I should tell them. If I should just say, that I went ahead and used it, after she passed, because I knew I was going to pay it off ----- or if I should call them back and act like I just found out she passed (it was in the past 2 weeks) and that I didn't know that at the time I used the card.
Its about my friend's gf, if a felony is committed on H1 visa status and reported to Fraud Prevention Unit and USCIS, will consequences of this misdeed on her visa. Will this affect her H1 or green card application?
If under the current law the felony has a maximum sentence of two or more years, will she deported or arrested?
When I check on US consulate site it is given Rs.4200 for fee
Fraud Prevention Fee (Blanket L1) Rs.21000/=
I don't understand this, whether I have to pay this 21000 also
or what for this...?

i was on a dating site and i was looking at the payment plan and this is what it said about my ip adress (Your IP Address is logged for fraud
prevention and investigation) what am i under investigation
It appears that a tennant who moved out in Sept 2006, made three applications for credit in February 2007 (from his old address/my address for which he has now no access to, unless of course he copied a key). this seems odd to me, and if not highly illegal. I contacted the police, who despite going on about fraud costing millions, told me they where not interested and would only be interested once a crime has been comitted (ie money extracted from the credit firms). What happened to crime prevention.?
Am i right to be concerned, or should i just let them get on with it (The property is now empty awaiting a sale)
if a person enters into my yahoo photos. can i file a legal case against him
You can pay for a car worth £23,000 using switch with no problem, but try to withdraw £100 from a cash machine in india, and the card is blocked. Crazy as far as i can see
Let's say in an organization or a company, how can one prevent fraud
IM TRYING TO MAKE A CREDIT CARD PAYMENT TO "ALLOFMP3.COM'
I KEEP RECEIVING THIS MESSAGE:
"yOUR IP ADDRESS IS LOGGED FOR FRAUD PREVENTION;
*FRAUD WILL BE PROSECUTED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW"
WHAT IS GOING ON! ITS BEEN THIS WAY SINCE FEBRUARY!
It started out with purchasing something online, i answered a question, wrong the bank stopped my credit card from working and now every time i try to buy something online, the computer tells me m IP address has been logged for Fraud Prevention, any help?
I just recieved a phone call on my anwsering machine that said they were from Visa Fraud Prevention services- they told me they were calling about fraudulent activity on my account. They gave me their number and told me to call back to give them my card number and I allmost did but decided to go on the internet and see if it was a legitimate number. The number they gave was 1-877-666-4436- I checked online and could find nothing on Visas website with that given umber and I also checked my account online and nothing appears to be missing. Does this seem likee a scam???
thank you so much- i was so close to actually calling it put the smarter part of me realized that it was probably a scam
I am setting up an online business. I am going to sell downloadable products that allow customers to receive merchandises as soon as they provide the necessary credit card information. It won't take long for a transaction to be completed. It, therefore, won't leave me any chance to apply fraud prevention methods such as matching billing address to ship-to address, address verification, IP address check etc...I was advised to ask for the Card Verification number along with the credit card number but I am just not sure if a hacker could obtain that info (CVV2, CVC2) from the credit card companies database. It looks like nothing is impossible for hightech crooks for I have seen a long list of credit card info posted in some forum so that anyone could use it to conduct fraud.
Could someone give me some advices on how to prevent internet credit card fraud. I need your expertise please. Thank you
