internet fraud Question And Answer
Victim of Internet fraud?
I was not aware of internet fraud. I answered a e-mail stating that they were looking for representatives to help a business in China to collect money from U.S business. I answered the ad lately finding out it was a scam. The checks from a credit union in Indianapolis it had water seals. Could not tell it was fake. The people sending the e-mails have a yahoo address. How could you help. I reside in Franklin, TN.
Answers
don't think anybody here could help. go to proper authorities.
Go to the authorities. Cancel any checks or credit cards you wrote to them immediately. Anybody can get a Yahoo email. That should be the first clue. Any email address from Yahoo or Hotmail is not a legitimate business. Good luck, I hope they did not burn you.
What YOU need to do NOW is get all of your paperwork together and contact the Authorities. Since they are in another country it will be tough to prosecute, and impossible to recover money. One bank told Me they had a "stack of those checks" and couldn't do anything about it.
If you had posted the question sooner (BEFORE getting involved) a lot of folks could have told You all about it.
For future reference...
ANY letter or e-mail asking for help "moving money" is a FRAUD (Even if it's a real offer it's illegal. It's called Money Laundering and it's a federal offense).
Unless you ARE A COLLECTION AGENCY any letter or e-mail asking for help collecting bills, inheritances, winnings, or money of ANY kind is a FRAUD.
CONTESTS YOU DID NOT ENTER are FRAUDS.
INTERNET LOTTERIES (regardless of who "sponsors" them) ARE FRAUDS.
