internet scams Question And Answer

Why are so many internet scams based in Nigeria?

No disrespect intended to the honest people who I'm sure live there as in other places. This is the pattern I am seeing: people who attempt to sell high-end electronics such as video game systems and cell phones via online markets are often targeted by scam artists. It's usually something like: "Hi, I live in the U.S. but I want you to ship this item to my relative in Nigeria, they are sick, I am sick, they serve their country, are a student etc etc some sort of sob story." Then if you agree to sell them the item they come back with fake information such as bogus Paypal payments, confirmations from the USPS regarding money orders sent or the offer to use their company FedEX account. I gave up trying to sell my PSP and gave it to a friend because the same scam artist kept "buying" it on eBay and trying to cheat me out of my system! What the heck is the deal with this bizarre and annoying phenomenon? I'm asking this because I'm truly interested and want to know, keep the nationalistic fervor and foreign country bashing to a minimum please =P Actually, just don't do it at all. It reflects poorly on your fellow Americans.

There was a story done about this recently. Nigeria, ironically enough has one of the highest college graduates anywhere in Africa. But becuase of the political and constant social unrest and perpetual poor economy, many Nigerians have instead sought out illegal ways of bilking the WEST from money through illegal methods since the state of their economy is agrarian and unevolved. Since these crimes are committed across borders, and across oceans theres no govt oversight and little prosecution. If they can pull it off, theres good chance they'd get away with it. Many Nigerians are now "online" nad have rudimentary knowledge of internet, and online banking wire transfer methods, and then concoct a "too good to be true" story to dupe innocent folks.
They are lawless buttheads who have no respect for the working class of America.
