mail scams Question And Answer
E-mail Dating scams?
What is the best way to detect a dating mail scam? After 8 mails back and forth with this woman from Russia, she was suppose to come to the states for work and traveling in general, now she says she is in Moscow and does not have enough money to finish her trip. She asked for 1000 dollars, and I'm refusing to send it, how can I find out who is behind this obvious scam to report them?

Tell the dating website that you got her email from in the first place.
Had a buddy that did that, got married so she could be a resident... Last I heard he was still trying to get a divorce... She cleaned him out. Part of her cut goes to the Russian Mafia...
Wow... why would you ever bother to talk to her? She just wants your damn money. Just show the cops the emails and they can probably track where its coming from.
first off if she needed 1000 us dollars then no shit its a scam and either tell whoever gave u the adress what happened or call the police and have them track the adress down by the ip
All dating e-males especially from Russia are scams. They been around for a long time. I do wonder how many sen them money.
Read the way those dating sites start: Browse the profiles(you click on one and it might be major international phony!), create an account, build a profile. They almost start as soon as you join. Happens all the time.
I would advise the dating service and then the police. This is just a learning lesson for all of us. Stay away from the Russians!!!!!!!!!!

To address each of your questions specifically...
1. The best way to detect them is to make it clear you will not send money. And see a reputable site, like http://www.elenasmodels.com/ for finding real women. Elena (whom I know personally) also has a list of tips for detecting scams and such: http://www.elenasmodels.com/about/datingadvice.htm - poke around her site for a wealth of information.
2. Who to report them to.. if you got the email through a dating site, report it to the dating site. But keep in mind that the "freebie" dating sites are just hangouts for dating scams. Reputable sites will remove the offender. However, there is no way to report it to any authority that will actually do anything about it. No "police" will help you out.
