mail scams Question And Answer
How can we catch and prosecute individuals who are responsible for fraudulent ("Nigerian") e-mail scams?
For example, could we trap them by pretending to be a "victim", setting up a faux money transfer through Western Union, and then the Nigerian gets arrested when he/she arrives at Western Union to collect wired money using a special MTCN number to alert authorities?
There really isn't much the U.S. authorities can do to combat these crimes since most of the scammers are in foreign countries (e.g. Nigeria). But, why can't we collaborate with a worldwide company such as Western Union?
Answers
Report them to the authorities in Nigeria.
warn other people about them.
We need the cooperation of the government of Nigeria and they are not interested in stopping these crimes.
good idea though the nigerians may not coroporate. While i don't like frauds limited resources we do have should be focused on more danderous people like child pornographers gun runners, terrorists etc
i don't have an answer, but you are so right! i spam them, constantly it doesn't help.
