online scams Question And Answer

Online scams?

I have a friend that was recently contacted by a man online that says he is an american citizen in Nigeria and that he is there for his son who is sick with typhoid fever and that he is having problems with his credit cards and was also robbed, what he is proposing is my friend to accept a check from his work here in US and cash and then send him money through western union,I have heard of nigerian scams before through email and what not but she has talked on the phone with this person,it sounds shady to me though, how can I check this out for my friend so she does not get scammed or in trouble. Just wanted to say this was not an email letter she met this man through a dating service and has been talking by messenger and telephone, also she says she gave her name and address and now is worried and wondering if she should contact authorities now.

spams and scamers suck i get this crap all the time.
yep, sounds shady- why can't he get his relatives or close friends to do that for him
What ever you do don't do it . I don't know how this person got your friend's email but now he is just triying to steal personal information to try some kind of fraud . The scammers are really good at making you belive that they are in need of help but don't get fooled .
A total scammer! There's many people doing this for Osama who still hates us americans!!Do not let her talk to this man again and tell her parents and yours.
don't even get involved they well do anything to make you believe that this is legit they well even sometime fly you out to a different country to sign on a deal and many more things in the end you well still be ended up getting scammed. you can watch Dateline NBC to catch a scam artist they give many examples of what they well do.
ANY EMAIL with the word Nigeria in it is bogus That's all you need to know. Anyone remotely named Oluwa Danjuma or even Sylvester Gooba Dooba or Mary Francis Heebee Jeebee should be avoided by blocking the email and deleting it.
Never send money to someone who has contacted you online if you don't know them personally, especially if it's to an overseas location. Your friend needs to stop all contact with this person, no matter how sympathetic his story sounds. If you do an online search for something like "money scams online Nigeria" I'm sure you'll find a lot of sites cautioning you against these types of things and probably a way to report it.
just ignore it or delete the mails, if u need further information on online scams http://scamsbeware.com is a good resource center to help u stay informed, best wishes
Tell her to call the authorities and FAST!!! I had somehting similar happen to me in 2005. I got an email that I'd won a sweepstakes and that I had to pay taxes on the "winnings". I received a letter from the person in charge of the sweepstakes along with a cashier's check from a bank in New York for $3,000. The company was being ever so generous (right) and sending me the money up front to pay the taxes on the money (it was for $10,000). I was to deposit the check in my account, wait for it to clear and then wire the money to the company. I became suspicious, and went to a local check cashing office to see what would happen, and, just as I suspected, the "cashier's check" was fraudulent. The scam is that once your friend accepted the check from this man's "job", it clears her bank, and she wires the person the money, a few weeks later her bank will call to say the check is fraudulent and she will be stuck paying the bank back the money..even though she was the victin of a scam. Tell her under no circumstances should she have any further contact with this person, and above all do not give him any additional personal information. Call the police.
