what authority do i report online scams to?

this guy gave me his phone number and everything. i personally spoke to this guy.. i didnt give him any information but he was very very convincing. im not stupid.. i dont even bank online for fear of a virus and someone getting a hold of my info. and this guy had me going. until i found the exact email, word for word, that he sent me on a fraud email website. but that website wasnt an authority. it was just a website... so what authority can i call and speak to someone about this scam? this guy went as far as to tell me that one of my relitives had passed away. how screwed up is that?

Federal Trade Commission has an online complaint form. There is also one for more serious situations. They will check it out for you. Sometimes you just consider them notifed and they take it from there, other times they will phone you for more info. But, they will take care of it, note it in their files, and keep an eye on that guy, and when they have enough info against him they will prosecute.
Go to the FBI website and contact your local FBI field office. They have a special division that investigates these. Have the email ready.
