Is there a phishing scam asking about walmart money cards underway?

I keep getting emails about a walmart money card ending in certain digits, that really looks legit. It is letting me know I have $14.06 balance remaining. It doesn't ask for any information, and the links to unsubscribe and to privacy policy both link to the walmartmoneycard.com website. The sender address is walmart@acctalerts.com. I don't have a walmart money card, so I am pretty sure this is a scam, but could it just be a mistake? I can't find anything on the web about it.

Have you ever received a phishing email asking for your Bank a/c details?

I receive so many phishing (fraudulent) emails asking to update my bank account details else threatening to close my bank account. These are basically emails pretending to be from a bank and provide a link to a hoax webpage designed to look like your original bank website, wherein you're expected to put in all your bank login details. Interesting thing is, I've managed to do a Whois search on the fraudulent domain names and been able to get contact details of the person registering the hoax domain names. My question is, isn't it easy for the police to track down such criminial websites and the persons operating them? Why is the threat for phishing scam not taken seriously? I don't even know if there's a separate government department set up for reporting cybercrime.

New Phishing scam about Y Toolbar and ME7?

I received an email with subject "An important notice about your Yahoo! Toolbar" from the "Yahoo Toolbar team". In part it says "We've been working with Microsoft and have discovered compatibility issues between some older versions of Yahoo! Toolbar and the new Internet Explorer 7.0, which Microsoft is about to release..." and proceeds to give a link for more info. This looks suspicious. However, I can't find any warnings on the Internet about this, so thought I'd ask here whether this is legitmate or a scam.

should one change the yahoo account after being a victim of password phishing?

just this morning, my yahoo account was compromised. my password was changed. i was able to gain access to my yahoo account again, but i am wondering whether it is worth the effort to completely change into another yahoo account. does being a phishing victim once predispose you to future phishing scams again or allows your account to be easily accessed by others? or will changing your password to something more secure (i generated another one using keepass) do the trick? any additional details regarding security (no links please... i can read those) would be appreciated... something realistic i guess... thanks.

360 phishing scam?

Yesterday I received 3 identical IMs from people on my friends list saying I should check out the new pics on their Yahoo 360 page, but the URL did not have Yahoo or 360 in the immediate domain. I did click the first one that came in, and I was redirected to what looks like a Yahoo sign-in page. I knew it wasn't, though, because Firefox told me it might be a phishing page. So I closed the browser, opened a new session, and changed my password. I also ran a quick virus scan and a Spybot update and search. I guess my question is whether this is a widespread issue that I need to be concerned about, but also to remind folks not to click on links that show up without an introductory discussion to prove that the source is trustworthy. BTW, I'll need to add the URL later. This was on my home computer. I want to say it was on sweedo.com or something. The page that appeared looked like a mirror of a Yahoo login page - just with a clearly non-Yahoo URL.

How do I contact AOL (via e-mail) to notify them that a user is using their website for a phishing scam?

I receved an e-mail claiming to be from City County Credit Union and to be honest, was the lamest format I've seen for a phishing scam. It had this url in the e-mail: http://members.aol.com/thatsbguy88/ On their page, they have a cheap immitation of the real site: https://www.citycountycu.org I looked on their site as well to report the e-mail, but have forwarded it to spam@ftc.gov Thanks for your help, I appreciate it! I just checked up on the url I posted from AOL and it appears the contents have been removed. However, I don't think the user's account was suspended since it shows an empty directory listing now.

Phishing and Scam Emails?

In the last 2 weeks, for no apparent reason, loads of phishing, scam and spam emails have been coming through. My yahoo spam filter dumps them into a bulk folder and any that do get through to my email client (Windows Mail) divert to a Spam folder and then get deleted. So no real problem, but why suddenly are we awash with sad bastards with nothing better to do than wanting to transfer 15 million dollars from Nigeria into my account for a commission, for example. And I seem to have lots of bank accounts I never knew I had that need my confirmation of details. Is anyone else suddenly getting bombarded with these useless emails and who believes this stuff anyway?

What exactly is a phishing scam?

I've seen some mentions on other question about phishing scams but don't really know what that means. Is it like the e-mail scam where if you give some deposed african prince your bank account number so they can hide funds and you get to keep a million when all is said and done -- only to have your account wiped out?

What are the best internet phishing (or other) scams you've come across?

I got a "my friend request" on myspace which seemed genuine at first, but turned out to another stupid attempt at selling teen porn. Plus I've won the Netherlands lottery more times than I care to mention. Any others?

Are there work from home scams where they are really phishing for your social security #?

I'm just wondering - if I gave my social to some work from home company - what could they do just having that and my name? Are there very well set up scams out there just phishing for personal information? What does a person do if they make a mistake other than call the BBB? There's already a caution out on my social - so they probably can't do anything anyway right? I gave my address name and social and I'm just wondering - what do I do if I made a mistake. I found out that there is a listing with an F rating in Corona for this company - meaning that they are conducting fraudlent business practices or expecting people to work and then terminating them after 4 hrs and not paying. If that's all if is - then I'm not too concerned but if they can steal my identify - I need to know what to do about that scenario.

How and to whom do I report possible phishing scams from IM messenger?

need to know how to report someone who is asking for money.

Best way to deal with phishing scams?

Is there a better way to deal with phising emails rather than just deleting them? They are so irritating, and come so very often even if they go straight to junkboxes, I can't believe people actually fall for the Nigerian 'inheritance' notifications or 'International lottery wins' - do people really fall for these??? Is it worth replying sending huge attachments to block up their mail boxes or replying to pretend you have fallen for the scam and waste their time for as long as you can? Is there a software programme that deals with them in such a way that their time is wasted and it is no longer profitable to have masses of people being paid to sit in a room in Africa sending out scam mails to any email address they can find? I am sooooooooo irritated by this, I feel I ought to do something more than just ignore it and delete. I use yahoo email and my pc has virgin PC guard and also I have Norton. It's my yahoo address they all go to, some in junk some in my inbox.

Do people really still fall for those "phishing" scams?

I am so tired of getting emails from "Citbiank" or "Paypel" or some other mispelled institution, trying to get information from me. I don't even open the email, I just delete it. Are people still falling for those stupid scams?

Are all representative assisstant needed emails phishing scams?

I keep getting these phishing emails where they say work from home get paid 10% of their customers payment for processing the check through your bank and then send them the rest of the money. Is it all a scam or are foreign people really desparate to make more of a profit because of foreign tax and money exchange rate? Scam or no scam has anyone done it and not been scammed? Can we scam the scammer?

Phishing scams?

I receive at least 2 phishing e-mails every single day. At first I thought they were funny, then annoying and now I'm just angry. They have tried everything, right down to the ridiculous stuff (the British Prime minister is giving you this and that, the United Nations, The Citi Bank, The FBI needs your information, etc.). I've thought of sending a smart a** reply (just to make me feel a little better) but I've read somewhere that some of those people are actual criminals and would even threaten violence. So, instead now I'd really like to report them to someone, but I don't know to whom? I can't just report them to Yahoo or Hotmail, because this is a different kind of an e-mail account... Thanks...
