phishing scams Question And Answer

Is this a phishing scam?

I got an e-mail from my bank that looked authentic. It was asking me to update my account information immediately,or else I would be resricted from conducting online banking .It looked suspicious and I reported it to the bank.Turned out it was a scam.Shouln't my AVG anti-virus have caught it in the first place,or is this type undetectable?

Answers

Yes it is, and no on the AVG. There is no way for an AV program to detect a scam. It is not spyware or a virus.
100% phishing scam your bank or any bank would never ask such a thing unless in person. You should report this to the polic and to your bank.
Be more alert man it will help n in case of AVG why dunn u renew it if ur havin some problems wid it.
Your bank will never contact you asking for your details, the only time you will ever need to give them your details is if you contact them. If in doubt contact your bank ;)
unless you have initiated conversation with your bank, don't ever click a link in an email...make sure the email states your name at the top to address you personally...in fact, it doesn't have to be from a bank...it could be from paypal, ebay, or anything you have signed up for...most places will tell you that they use your personal name to address you in all of their correspondence so you know it's not phishing...if you want to check to see if an email is legitimate, type in the link...NEVER click on it in the body of the email...you will find that none of them have actually sent an email to you...anti-virus is for viruses not phishing...
yes it is
I Agree With The 1st Answer, An Anti-Virus, AVG Which You Are Using Is Not Able To Detect Phishing Scams. You need To have An All-In-One Security Suite Such As Norto 360 or Install Internet Explorer 7 With A Built In Anti-Phishing. Becareful in The Future And Good Luck !
It is undetectable as it is not a virus but a human mind behind it must not be having any suspicious code or program but it is plainly deception which I believe is out of reach of computers at this moment
That's not a virus, so it's not AVG's job. You may want to try Spyware Terminator. It saved my butt several times.
It is a Scam because your bank will never ask you to give info over the web, they will always ask that through the phone. AVG will not detect it because its not a virus, get something like Norton 360, McAfee Internet Security or Kaspersky Internet Security.
