phishing scams Question And Answer
Phishing and Scam Emails?
In the last 2 weeks, for no apparent reason, loads of phishing, scam and spam emails have been coming through. My yahoo spam filter dumps them into a bulk folder and any that do get through to my email client (Windows Mail) divert to a Spam folder and then get deleted. So no real problem, but why suddenly are we awash with sad bastards with nothing better to do than wanting to transfer 15 million dollars from Nigeria into my account for a commission, for example. And I seem to have lots of bank accounts I never knew I had that need my confirmation of details. Is anyone else suddenly getting bombarded with these useless emails and who believes this stuff anyway?

It might be that your email address suddenly got out there - likely through something you signed up for or had to enter your email address for.
It happened to me a few months ago. Then I was curious and googled my email address. It appeared on a page with a huge list of other addresses. So, I figure some greedy jerk got it somehow. Unfortunately, until the entire world works to enforce cyber-crime law there's not going to be much we can do. And some jerk halfway across the country or halfway across the world can keep trying to scam us out of our money
I know - I've noticed this too, and wondered the same thing.
Apparently I have loads of bank accounts with loads of banks, have been doing business without realising it with several Nigerians, have been offered jobs in a car salesroom in Sydney as long as I provide all my personal and bank account details, have loads of relatives who snuffed it in Africa and want to leave me their millions, and have a large number of well-wishers (including schoolmates, which is quite surprising considering I left school 15 years ago) who are bombarding me with e-cards.
I can't believe anyone ever falls for this rubbish, but you've got to admit, they are getting slightly more creative. Unfortunately it's taking a while for the spam filters to catch up with the inundation and I'm fed up to my back teeth with it, quite frankly!
